MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. — A Clinton Township woman faces multiple criminal charges after allegedly leading local law enforcement on a destructive multi-city pursuit in a stolen U-Haul cargo van.
The Arraignment and Charges
As reported by CBS News Detroit, 47-year-old Jennifer Roe was formally arraigned on June 1, 2026, in the 41B District Court. The Macomb County Prosecutor's Office has charged Roe with third-degree fleeing a police officer, receiving and concealing a stolen motor vehicle, and reckless driving.
A magistrate set her bond at $100,000 cash/surety. Legal updates tracked by ClickOnDetroit indicate that Roe remains held at the Macomb County Jail and will be required to wear a GPS tether if released.
The Pursuit and Roll-Over Crash
According to details released by the Macomb County Sheriff's Office, the sequence of events began on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, when the U-Haul van was reported stolen. The following morning around 8:00 AM, a local Flock license plate recognition camera flagged the vehicle near 15 Mile Road and Gratiot Avenue.
The Initial Stop: Clinton Township Police attempted a standard traffic stop, but Roe sped away. Local officers terminated their pursuit after roughly 20 minutes due to safety risks as the van crossed into Mount Clemens.
Spike Strips Deployed: County deputies intercepted the vehicle and successfully deployed stop sticks on Hall Road (M-59). According to a report by FOX 2 Detroit, Roe continued to flee on a completely deflated tire, driving directly on the metal wheel rim.
The Intersection Collision: The pursuit ended violently when the U-Haul ran a red light at the busy intersection of Hall Road and Garfield Road. The van was struck by an oncoming vehicle, causing the U-Haul to roll over onto its passenger side.
First responders from Macomb Township had to cut out the front windshield of the wreckage to pull Roe from the vehicle. She suffered no major injuries and was taken into custody at the scene.
Official Statements
The incident drew sharp criticism regarding public safety. Local reporting by Patch highlighted a statement from Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido, who stated:
"The allegations in this case reflect a blatant disregard for public safety. When a suspect chooses to flee from law enforcement, innocent motorists and families are placed at serious risk."
Roe is scheduled to return to court for a mandatory probable cause conference on June 9, 2026.
