FRASER, Mich. (DRCN)—A male teacher at Arts Academy in the Woods has been suspended following allegations of sending inappropriate text and social media messages to a student.
As reported by The Macomb Daily, Arts Academy in the Woods Principal Emily Francis issued a one-page letter to parents, employees, and community members on June 2, 2026, confirming that law enforcement has been active at the building to investigate the claims.
Investigation Details
According to school officials, the investigation focuses on messages directed at a single student. In compliance with campus protocols, the unnamed staff member was immediately placed on administrative leave. He will remain barred from the school premises through the end of the current academic year while the investigation continues.
The Fraser Police Department confirmed they are actively gathering evidence. Investigators noted that it is too early to determine if criminal charges will be filed, and no arrests have been made.
School and Community Response
Principal Francis emphasized that the academy is launching its own internal probe parallel to the criminal case. "We will continue to fully cooperate with the police in their investigation into the allegations," Francis stated in the community letter.
Local families expressed high anxiety over the announcement. Speaking with WXYZ Detroit, Annie Guntenaar, the parent of a ninth-grade student and an alumna of the charter school, noted that while receiving such notices is alarming, she appreciated that the administration alerted parents immediately.
Arts Academy in the Woods operates as a public charter middle and high school in Fraser, Macomb County. Administrative officials clarified that the academy operates independently and is not part of the standard Fraser Public Schools district.
