WARREN, MI — Dave’s Hot Chicken has built a reputation on Nashville-style heat and a viral social media presence. To see if the substance matched the sizzle, I recently sat down for a three-person taste test.
The menu is refreshingly brief—often a hallmark of a kitchen that knows its niche—centering almost exclusively on tenders and sliders.
The Spread
We sampled a cross-section of the heat levels and sides, bringing the total for three diners to just over $50:
For me it was: Dave’s No. 1 ($12.29): Two massive tenders served with fries, sliced bread, pickles, and the signature "Dave’s Sauce." I opted for Mild here.
Diner one chose Dave’s No. 3 ($13.29): A "best of both worlds" combo featuring one tender and one slider. He dialed the heat up to Hot.
Final an order of Dave’s Hot Mozz ($7.99): A three-piece side of golden-fried mozzarella planks.

Pro’s and Con’s
The standout of the meal wasn't actually the bird, but the Dave’s Sauce. It’s a creamy, smoky, and tangy masterpiece that elevates everything it touches.
The mozzarella planks also lived up to the hype—thick, crispy, and boasting a satisfying cheese pull.
When it came to the "Hot" level, Dave’s doesn't pull punches. It delivered a legitimate, creeping spice that far outpaces your standard "spicy" fast-food offering.
However, the chicken itself proved to be the most divisive element.
While the quality of the meat was evident, the preparation follows a specific heavy-paste spice application common in Nashville-style spots.
One diner raved about the texture and punch, but for others, the spice-to-paste ratio felt overwhelming.
The Verdict
Dave’s Hot Chicken is undeniably "good," provided you enjoy it that way, paste-heavy style of dry-rub heat. It’s a specialized experience that hits the mark for heat-seekers, though it may not replace the traditional fried chicken favorites for everyone.
If you’re a fan of Nashville Hot, it’s a must-try. If you prefer a lighter breading, you might keep searching.
Miss Danielle’s Verdict:
Would I go back? I don't care for it like that, no.
Worth your money? For those that like it like that, yes.
What they got right: That Dave’s Sauce and the Mozz.
What they didn’t lose: They are what they are, Tennessee Hot Chicken, by Dave.
“I don’t review vibes. I review food.”
